Living Your Dreams - - Life as a Series of Do Overs
By Kamin Bell
Living your dreams is attainable, even if you have had some challenges in your life. If you feel you've made mistakes, are you still beating yourself up over it, even if it happened years ago? Do the should've, could've, would've's of regret nag you over past decisions?
I have sure made plenty of mistakes. Pick any area of life - Spiritual, Career, Financial, Health, Relationship, Social or Education - and I've got a story to tell.
We have a choice, though. We can look at mistakes with judgment, ridicule and shame, and beat ourselves up about them. Or, we can look at them as mis-takes, as in a misstep, a wrong turn, an "oops", or a learning lesson.
What if we began to see our life experiences as a series of do overs? True, we have to live with the consequences of our previous actions, but each and every day we have a new chance to turn things around and make new choices. We awake to new possibilities and new opportunities.
In golf it's called a mulligan. If you hit a bad shot, you get another try, a do over. Shouldn't we have the same opportunity in our lives? Here are seven ways to call a do over and move forward in your life.
1. Be consciously kind to yourself. Berating yourself and calling yourself names keeps you in a lower vibration. Listen to and notice your thoughts. Would you say those things to a child? If not, quit it. Speak kind, loving, encouraging words to yourself. You deserve it!
2. Be grateful morning, noon, and night. No matter what has occurred in your life, keeping a gratitude journal will shift your vibration higher and allow more good things to flow to you. When old thoughts appear, be grateful in that moment for something in your life. This will help you attract more things to be grateful for.
3. Visualize what you would like your life to look like. It is written in the Bible, "Where There Is No Vision People Perish." (Proverbs 29:18) What is the new vision you have for your life? If you don't have one, spend some time thinking about your ideal life. Play, dream, and see it in your mind. Get into the feeling of the visualization, which will help to draw it to you.
4. Decide each night before you go to sleep that tomorrow is a new day. Each night we can look at our day ahead and plant seeds for what we would like to experience when we arise. Allow your dreams and seeds to germinate overnight, unhindered by any negative self-talk or doubts, and watch miracles begin to occur.
5. Find humor in your day and even in your situation. Don't take it all too seriously. I'm not minimizing your difficult situation. However, laughter has healing properties and can help clear your mind and lift your spirits. Go to a comedy show or call a friend who makes you laugh and have a good belly laugh.
6. Stay in the present. If you are stuck in the past or the future, remember that neither really exists. All we have is now so make the most of it. What can you do right now to change your circumstances? Go do that.
7. Make more mistakes. This one was tough for me but I had to learn to be willing to make mistakes, to not be perfect, and to be willing to try new things. This analogy always helps me - when you were a baby learning to walk, you fell down hundreds of times. But you didn't quit. You kept getting back up and trying again. You've got that persistence in you!
And, don't take mistakes personally. You made a mistake, you are not a mistake! Learn from it, make necessary changes and adjustments and make some more mistakes because those mistakes can lead you one (mis)step at a time to living your dreams.
